Movie Monster Series
2001 saw Bandai reinvent and renamed the Toho Kaiju Series to the “Movie Monster Series”. As a result, Bandai reissued 11 of the previous Godzilla Island/Toho Kaiju figures including Gamera 99 from the Daiei Series. It’s possible the reason for the name change from the Toho Kaiju Series to the Movie Monster Series is to allow Bandai to include monsters to the line other than the ones created by Toho Studios. But as of this writing, Gamera 99 is the only kaiju part of the Movie Monster Series, that was created by a studio other than Toho.
The folded tags for each kaiju are new with some unique features for certain figures. Gone are the green borders with the pictures of each respected kaiju taking up most of the front of the tag. The inside of the tag has information with the same picture used from the front of the tag for each respected kaiju. The back of the tags feature different pictures for each respected kaiju. Monsters filmed during the Heisei era, pictures a close up image of the Heisei Godzilla on the back of the tag. Monsters filmed in the Showa era pictures a close up image of Godzilla 74. Godzilla 54, Gamera 99, and Rainbow Mothra have close up images of themselves. Godzilla 54, Godzilla 93, King Ghidorah 91, SpaceGodzilla, and Rainbow Mothra have an extra white safety precaution tag. Movie Monster Series Destroyah, King Ghidorah 91, and Mecha King Ghidorah have a gold Toho license sticker of the Marvel comics Godzilla with 2001 on the bottom. All other Movie Monster Series figures have the same Toho license sticker, except in silver and except for Gamera 99 which has an orange/white Daiei license sticker.
The biggest surprise about the Movie Monster Series figures is the improved differences when compared to the previous figures. The entire Movie Monster Series figures feature either a new vinyl color, different paint highlights, and even a larger size difference when compared the the Toho Kaiju line. The following pictures compare figures from the Toho Kaiju Series to the Movie Monster Series.

Movie Monster Series Burning Godzilla
Bandai’s six inch Burning Godzilla is done in orange vinyl for the body, arms, and legs. Some collectors have placed lights inside the body to create a burning effect. The tag is the same as the previous Movie Monster Series tags for the Heisei era figures except the respected kaiju is pictured. The Toho license sticker is silver with the Marvel comics Godzilla and the year 2001. There is also a white safety precaution tag.
