A Special Look at...
The Bandai DX Transforming G-Force Mogera

1994 saw Toho release the film "Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla". After the success of the previous Toho film "Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 93", it was speculated that MechaGodzilla 93' would return to battle Space Godzilla along side Godzilla in the new film. Special Effects Director Koichi Kawakita took the opportunity to replace MechaGodzilla with an updated version of the Mysterians Moguera, resulting in the creation of the G-Force Mogera. A unique feature had the G-Force Mogera transforming into the air battleship Star Falcon and the burrowing tank Land Mogera.

To this day, the G-Force Mogera has been one of Toho's unpopular creations and only Bandai has produced any vinyl toys of this mecha figure. Yet, possibly one of the greatest toys ever made is the Bandai DX Transforming G-Force Mogera.

Released in 1994, Bandai produced an impressive lineup of "Deluxe" battery operated figures including the PowerfulWalk Godzilla 94' and the SparkWalk Space Godzilla (see "The Complete DX/Battery Operated Godzilla Figures"). Interesting enough, the DX Transforming Mogera is not a battery operated toy, but has the amazing feature to be able to transform to the Star Falcon and Land Mogera.

The box has a plastic tray that supports the body parts of the DX Transforming G-Force Mogera. Instructions for assembly and stickers are included. Accessories are secured on "trees" commonly used for plastic model kits.

When the DX Transforming Mogera is assembled, the figure stands 9 1/2 inches tall. Suprisingly, Mogera is out of scale, standing shorter, when compared to the DX PowerfulWalk Godzilla 94' and the DX SparkWalk Space Godzilla. the DX G-Force Mogera also stands well above the Bandai standard Godzilla 94 leaving the DX figure as a stand alone toy.

Besides the feature of the G-Force Mogera able to transform into the Star Falcon and the Land Mogera, Mogera can open its arms pods revealing removeable missiles.

For many years the DX Transforming Mogera was out of scale when compared to other figures, but now with the 2008 release of the CCP Godzilla 94, the two figures look great together.

Despite being one of Toho's most unpopular creations, the Bandai DX Transforming G-Force Mogera is one of the most popular toys ever made. As years go by, this figure becomes harder to find as some collectors perfer to have two figures. One to display as Mogera, the other as the Star Falcon and Land Mogera. Pricing can be difficult to determine depending on contition. Often offered for over a hundred dollars, but can easily go over two hundred for a mint in box example. While the Bandai DX Series has never been popular with collectors, the Bandai DX Transforming G-Force Mogera is one of the most unique figures ever made that has yet to be duplicated by any toy company.
